What Are Lifestyles Like In A Different Society?
Many people ask the question “With no more incentive to make money, what will people do all day?”
This is an excerpt from Designing The Future (that you can download by entering your email address on the right of screen) that discusses this question…
From early civilizations to the present day, most humans have had to work to earn a living. Most of our attitudes about work may be a carry-over from these much earlier times. In the past, it was necessary for people to fetch water and carry it to their dwelling places. They gathered wood to prepare fires for heating and cooking and fuel to burn in their lamps. It would have been very difficult for them to imagine a time when water would rush forth in their own home with the turn of a handle; to press a button for instant light would have seemed to be within the realm of
magic. People of ancient times probably wondered what they would do with their time if they did not have to engage in the burdensome tasks that were so necessary to sustain their lives.
Alleviating Human Pressures
Human beings free of debt, insecurity, and fear become much more amiable. With no one out to sell anyone anything or to deprive another of possessions or money, the basis for unhealthy human aggression is outgrown. People no longer are burdened by the nagging concerns that consume so much attention such as mortgages, health care costs,
education fees, fire insurance, economic recession or depression, the loss of jobs, and taxes. With the elimination of these burdens and the removal of the conditions that create feelings of envy, greed, and competition, people’s lives would be far more meaningful.
The aim of this new social design is to encourage a new incentive system, one that is no longer directed toward the shallow and self-centered goals of wealth, property, and power. These new incentives encourage people toward self-fulfillment and creativity, the elimination of scarcity, the protection of the environment, and most of all concern for fellow human beings. People would have the means and the time for intellectual and spiritual growth, and the time to realize what it really means to be human in a caring society. Rather than evolving into an age of leisure, truly
intelligent and committed people would find very little “free” time, even without having to “work” for a living.
There is always need for better more efficient ways of doing things. People will want to participate in the society, seeing how it directly benefits their way of life and others, as things are constantly being updated and changed. There are no Utopias. The very notion of “Utopia” is static. The survival of any social system ultimately depends upon its ability to allow for change to improve society as a whole. However, today, most people are not prepared for changes
in society either emotionally or intellectually.
Unburdened by survival concerns, people would have time for individual interests such as continuing their education. Education, if available to everyone without a price tag, could become a never-ending process. The cities of the future would be living universities. Most people would attend schools and university classes or engage in other activities. There would be classes for those interested in theater, photography, painting, ballet, and all of the arts at the music, art, and theater centers. People would be able to go to centers to work on or get help with their new inventions.
New horizons open up for people who dared not even imagine these possibilities in the past due to lack of money or time. It is painful to even imagine a life of limitless possibilities for those who have limited purchasing power.

That would be a great way of life… Time to read books, learn new stuff and implement new ideas and technology… I think I have projects and ideas to fill a life without work…
I believe that once we are able to free ourselves of the human pressures that are mentioned, we will realize that our greatest fears are based upon ‘how will it affect me’. Or, will it have to be the other way around?
Now THAT’S a civilised world. We won’t have a lazy society, even now, many people work for the love of what they do. With good education, everyone will grow up inspired to work on exciting projects for the betterment of humankind.
It is like a dream come true to me. I think most people are soul searching for an answer for why should one exist on earth, for money, love or ?. Many have gave up in the process of the search, i.e. most found no answer continue to be drifted by the force of Society pressure, some went on with spiritual pursuit in escapism of reality of the social pressure and etc. Jacque has organized & structured it well that allow mankind to lay a path for fulfillment of human potential. When one has no fear of losing security in life, that’s where the real human potential is able to be realized. It is like when we were children that we pick up knowledge without worrying about earning a living, the speed of learning and creativity is borderless and this shall bring about positive changes in society at large.
All we need do is look at all the amazing, intelligent and creative people adding valuable content to social network sites on the internet…for free! This is NORMAL. With resources and technology freely available, everyone gives and receives freely, because that’s how we are made. When the rest of the world catches up with the internet, we will see this amazing transformation (I know, people still sell stuff online, but that’s because we still live in a monetary system. However, most digital material is available online at no cost.)
It is sad to know that the majority of our lives are spent working and sleeping. Only the smallest fraction of that time is actually spent living. And if you think about how we utilize that small amount of time we find that—that fraction is even less because most of it is spent worrying about how we are going to earn enough money or how we are going get enough sleep so that can have more energy to earn more money. Thinking about it practically drives one to insanity. The cost of living is quite literal in the sense that if you don’t pay up YOU WILL DIE! The blueprints that The Venus Project provides for a Resource-Based system is a breath of fresh air. Our lives are meant to perpetuate happiness, love and the well being of humanity not accumulate monetary and material wealth. I absolutely agree that if no one had to work we could finally invest our lives into… well, our lives. Visit the places we have always wanted to. Start that project we have been meaning work on, and actually finish it. Spend as much time with our families and loved ones as the day will allow without having to worry about getting up in the morning for work. Imagine a stress free, worry free environment. Life spans would be longer and more meaningful. The energy of life would vibrate and higher and frequency as we evolve from a stone a river to being that flows with it and find ourselves more nestled into our oneness with this planet.
Hello, I´m a young woman of 28 years old. I´m Graphic Designer and I work of that.
I´m from Argentina and I am very much interested to go on the Venus Proyect and to be part of this. I wish to see the videos with subtitles if this is possible, because my english is poor. But I can read better than to hearing, anyway.
I think that if this is possible, perhaps we can start with a small group of people to form a small community. And then, people will become aware of this. Little by little. What do you think about that? This is possible?
This is just an idea, but I do not know what else can I do. I see that many people are very closed mind.
Excuse my bad language, again.
I hope the venus proyect come true.
The main problem is that physically some people want to dominate over others. It is probably very basic, on gene level. Power is a natural tool that allows females to choose the best males, and causes males to fight with each other. Then monetary system exists as a tool for power. It actually causes dramatic shifts of the genetic preferences, since physical weaknesses motivate people to accomplish more in the information era. However, our ancient genes are much stronger than our modern concepts, so even if society tortures itself, it cannot fool nature eventually.
Therefore I’m afraid there will always be those people who feel a strong drive to lead and organize others – because they have an eye for inefficiency. And there will be followers and rebels against them, and also trouble when two natural leaders meet each other. This is an issue of pride and righteousness, not really an issue of survival. Every human being wants to contribute to society, but our qualities are different. We often (always?) have impossible expectations of ourselves and others. We also see each other and the reality very differently, which causes great misunderstandings, meddling into other person’s business etc. Our cooperation is greatly troubled by our cognitive differences, so in the end, again, only power decides the issues. It is very very sad, but because of our mutual blindness, we will tend to see enemies in each other, when incompatible people clash over their social needs. All our other needs may be resolved, but our social needs will remain in their dangerous basic variety.
@Greta
Hi Greta, In my thoughts, that was exactly the starting point I’ve imaginated. I’m an italian designer and actually I would leave everything… money, house, car… just for beeing part of a community like that. I think that a lot of peoples woud do that too, they just should know how to move.
Well, sorry for my bad english. Just to say I’m sure this will be the only possible future.
I belive we can do it.
The idea of this society is brilliant, but I have a few questions:
1. How would we make the transition from the money model to this new model. Would we start self sustaining communities as described then expand? How would these communities interact with the money models until everyone is enlightened to the same level as this is something that would take many generations to change?
2. Is there psychological evidence/reports to be sure that humans will behave in this way if society were changed to this amazing model? How would we eradicate desire in humans to have more? For instance, I like my apple mac… when a new one is released i want it. If someone else has it, I want it more. This could be a greed that is inherent in us and that could still lead to violence. and violence should always be a crime.
3. Emotional heartache is a stress that will not go away. How do we prevent people from reacting to emotional issues and problems? Violence will still be inevitable in this area of mysterious human behaviour.
4. What incentive will there be for people to do the jobs that nobody likes? We will always shit, and someone will need to have to service these areas? Machines doing everything is great, but there will be a long stretch where this technology will need to be refined. How will we get people to do all the things that poverty is needed to achieve? I believe whole heartedly that people will want to work without pay if they are doing what they love.
This living option has really opened my eyes and thank you for that!
@Greta
You’re right Greta many things are not going the right way we are millions who want to do something for a better world. Being a community should not be a new sect, it should be an opened and free community for a new world where there is more justice and true well being
let’s think on the good ideas
Spruzniac
okay. the thing that is hardest for me to digest here is the lack of concern for what it would take to get to this point of perfection. this is crazy to think that people aren’t going to be asking questions like: “what about fancy purses/shoes/cars/jewelry/furniture/toys/bling/etc.???” those people that want and need to be better than everyone, those people that want and need wealth and inventory. those people today aren’t going to be willing to just give up that itch. no matter how positive and easy going this concept is. society has, in a way programmed itself to be eccentrically obsessed with possessions and vanity. how does that fit into this changed and improved way of life? i believe what you’re offering here is the closest thing i’ve ever come to when seeking the cure for our disease. however, i am very cynical because i am surrounded by these very people. people who are always there to maintain that primitive mentality of centuries past and of the ignorant present. i just don’t see this happening any time soon. this just isn’t pulling off a band-aid. this is pulling out circuitry. might as well start waiting for a meteor to come crashing down before you think you can put a dent in the status quo.
Hallo, I am very much exided. I am sitting now here and my tears are roling over my face – so much impressing I am. The last week – I saw the Zeitgeist Movie and was than on this website and youtube – I was dreaming 24 h a day about it! It makes me really free to read those things! I am from Germany and my english also not so much good, but good enough to join with all this peoples here and to understand the message! This is so much great and I hope and I know it WILL COME TRUE! It is the really Joy and power and Love! Like this I feel it. Thanks all here to be here to fulfil our LOVE! Thank you from bottom of my heart!
Be Happy all there and lets make it come true!
Having spent a fair amount of time giving volunteer service to noble causes, I greatly appreciate this vision. When people are free to focus on what is really important, it will be a renaissance like no other in history.
I think we need to start actually building this example community now. The Venus Project and Zeitgeist Movement have been focusing 100% on getting the word out, and they have been doing a great job… The vision is a great one, but I think we need to get more practical about things both for our research and also as an incredible outreach tool.
Just looking at the hierarcy of needs per Maslow’s theory of needs. Aren’t we going to make babies all day if nothing else is there to worry us? Not that is something bad with that on one side when is done in the love belonging boundaries, however, I can see that for those mindes that are not preocupated to fulfil their self- actualization level we may end up with quite a bad scenario and aparently no way to control it because we will all be free do to what we want. It seems to me that to live as described in this new movement we may have to agree that we all will grow at the same time and move towards a self –actualization stage. Any thought on that?
Lets say we take a situation where you have 10 million people on a sea
based platform with housing as shown in many of your images.
Now lets state the oceans around you are full of fish, you have the
room and even all the required resources to grow crops and keep
livestock.
Now the question is if everyone has the same (high) level of living
and no worries about money
Why would anyone work on a farm? This is tough and heavy work.
Why would anyone do heavy, dirty work such as fishing?
Why would anyone do the dirty work such as cleaning, fixing problems
in the pluming etc
Why would anyone become the boss of a “company” or group (even
cleaning etc needs someone to keep things in check and make sure
everything gets done). Why would anyone take the extra responsibility?
People work hard because they gain something from it and if there is
nothing to gain because you already have everything why would you put
in the extra effort or work at all?
People by nature are selfish creatures.
@Darren Sharland
Possible solution to not having other people cleaning up other peoples natural bowel movements (aka shit).
Instead of shitting into a toilet, shit into a bucket. Take bucket to empty field, dump bucket out. Sunlight dries shit out, wind blows away dried out parts of shit, sunlight dries shit out more, wind blows away dried out parts of shit, cycle repeats until wind has blown it all away. This is how cow shit dries out and any other animal’s shit. If you have a infant use cloth diapers instead of pampers. With cloth diapers, the shit can be scraped off into same bucket. Cloth diaper is thrown in the dirty lanudary pile to be washed instead of a diaper being throw into a land fill. Good for the environment and saves one lots of money as well.
If you have a dog or cat, shit goes in to the same bucket and taken to a field.
When taking a dog for a walk, leave shit on ground to naturally dry out, don’t pick it up because some one doesn’t like the smell or is worried about stepping in it.
Public restrooms of the future would consist of three rooms and i am only focusing on bowel movements (aka taking a shit). This would also work at a persons home, it could be a separate building.
The first room would be where everybody takes their dumps. They would still sit on a toilet but the toilet is directly above a looping conveyor belt. The shit would land on the conveyor belt and carry the shit to the second room. Once in the second room it is pushed off the conveyor belt and falls to the dirt below. The second room has very powerful lights to speed up the process of drying out the shit. The second room also has a fan on one side of the room to blow the dried out dusty parts around. The third room would be an automated washing room (similar to a automated car wash) except in this case it is cleaning the conveyor belt. Instead of flushing a toilet when done, on turns on the conveyor belt so it starts the process.
Upon entering the second room, a sensor is tripped letting the machine know to push the shit off the belt. Same thing for the third room, a sensor is tripped automatically starting the washing of the conveyor belt.
I’m going to say something that may sound like a joke but it is not.
One of those people that I think would boost all this ideas is Oprah Winfrey. She is one of the most powerfull person of this planet and she’s very open minded. Somebody should try to contact her staff.
Imagine to finally have the time to meditate without distraction, to elevate ones awareness beyond the physical to explore the meta and quantum physics of our existence full time. Humanity will evolve to be the image of perfection we were created to be. We have been stagnated so long by our limiting thought processes and design that we have digressed as a human race instead of progressing. Where would we be now had we followed in the footsteps of our Ancient Ancestors who built structures and ecosystems that did not destroy the planet yet still remain today in Ancient Egypt or Kemit? That is what The Venus Project is to me…a continuation of that legacy of higher conscious awareness.
So, who is writing the Screenplay to infuse this vision into the minds of the masses so we can consciously create our reality. Hey, the monetary system is on its way out……all it needs is that vision of a solution of a rebirth as opposed to the fear of mass destruction that is being instilled into the minds of the people through the media now.
Somebody call Stephen Speilberg Now!
@Saito
People aren’t born bad, greedy or selfish, we are taught to be like that, otherwise we wouldn’t succeed in this violent, greedy, selfish society. Change has to begin somewhere, and I think the best place to begin change is in our minds.
I would love working in a farm, or taking care of ill animals which are not nice comfortable jobs; I hate working in an office trying to make the company earn more money, no mater how well they are currently paying me, because I love plants, animals, cooking and painting! I wish I could wake up early in the morning and do a lot of the heavy work you mentioned, but I can’t because it’s not well paid and I need the money to pay the rent. Ask yourself the following question: what would you like doing if you didn’t have to worry about money anymore? What are you best at? Sports? Science? Teaching? Arts?
Plus, regarding ‘tough work’, Jacque Fresco has the idea that in a technology based society some activities wouldn’t make sense anymore, others, are left to machines and robots; in Future by Design he explains why the houses he ‘dreams for us’ don’t need to be cleaned like regular ones, why things don’t need to be repaired constantly -things are built to last, unlike today that things are built to last a couple of years so that you are constantly forced to buy another one! Think of a cell phone, for example… we have the technology to build one to last a lifetime if we used metal casings instead of plastic, if it didn’t get ruined when getting wet and had better chips… why do we continue using plastic to make them? It’s called Intentional Obsolecense -bad construction, poor materials, fashion-, so important for companies who seek profit, because it makes you change your cell phone continuosly!!
Read The Venus Project, trust me you’ll enjoy it -he explains things a lot better than I do, my English is poor.
@Svencle
I think a lot of people like the ones you described, if given the choice, would take a new way of living, like The Venus Project, because they might be tired of vanity and possessing things. But we’ll never now if we never give them the chance to think about it. Underneath all the make-up there’s a human being, and the personality you describe for them is pathological. Wealthy people often get depressed and try to commit suicide, and most people think ‘why? he has all the money in the world, he’s good looking and famous, why did he do that?’, let me say people feel empty, and they try to fill the void with things you described. Ask them, give them the chance and you’ll be surprised. I think in the end, we all basically want the same things in life, but in a monetary society like the one we live in, we don’t have many choices to develope our skills and lead a happy fulfilling life.
It would take time, a lot of time perhaps, but I think it’s possible. Don’t you think? It’s a nice dream…
@Svencle
I think we have to wait the end (?) of this crisis.
I am romanian and I can testimony that Ceausescu looked so sure of his invulnerability… But we have seen the end.
We use to say in Romania: “doesn’t bring the year, what brings the moment !”
So, be faithfull !
@Svencle
I think this may answer your question or some of the questions asked. In The Venus Project looks like we are going to have the time to devote to things we love / like to do. And because everyone is different and we all do different things. Then lets just say..
1)Lets say you love to design cloths. Then you dedicate time to design new style of cloths. Without having to pay to school and without someone trying to stop you!
2)And now lets just say you are a FAN of new style cloths. Then instead of going out shopping for new cloths. You will go out to that a location in which you can find and have the cloths of your style.!
3)Now, because everything is free, you wont need to go shopping crazy! because it there. And because everything is free, Every Designer cloths will have equally the same value.
.. so just because your design style / preference is different then the other persons, it is not going to better or worst then what he or she is wearing and this will go the same to shoes, hats and other stuff.
at least this is the way I’m looking at it.
all in all we’re still just animals.
if you look into nature, animals fight. and the fittest survives.
that’s basically how our society works and this is hard to overcome. i don’t think humanity is ready for a change. education is the first step, but think global. there are still many countries where human rights don’t even exist.
ul, germany.
Though I have few knowledge in sociology, I have the feeling that different trends will not seize to exist in human culture.
I do not think that VP is against human trends. Trends are a part of the evolution of the humanity that has to do with the memes of a human being.
VP, if I have understand correctly, is opposing the money mechanics that work behind those trends and the human strife that those mechanics produce.
I must say that a lot of people are ignoring Darren Sharland’s questions and they appear to be of the most relevancy.
Many people here are still referring to issues that arise in our “CURRENT” society (ie, greed, selfishness, etc.) however, these particular emotions may be obsolete (or greatly reduced) in an environmental-based economy. People need to let go of the old/current ways of thinking because they simply will not apply in this new society.
I do have questions of my own though. I, as Darren stated, think this is a brilliant and beautifully thought out way of life and I only wish my children’s children can benefit from even a fraction of what Fresco is proposing. However, here are my concerns…
1) How will people stand out as individuals? and how will this be accepted by society? For instance, if I design a microchip and people seem to prefer it over other designers’ chips, then I will clearly be the preferred designer amongst the group. Will other designers just accept this fact? Will they be jealous of me? Will my designs be regulated in order to more fairly accommodate other designers? etc. This is something that is dealt with fairly efficiently in our current society, however, in the environmental-based economy, I’m not so sure.
2) In Zeitgeist, Peter talks about how entertainment is unnecessary in the future (ie, sports, television, etc.) However, entertainment is subjective, and subjectively, I could make the argument that sports are a form of art. Therefore, we would be eliminating a form of artistic expression that entertains people and gives people joy. Would we have to completely eradicate the concept of “competition.” What about healthy competition? I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing when taken in the right context…
3) Finally, how would population be regulated? Can people have as many babies as they choose? If so, wouldn’t people having more babies need bigger homes and more modes of transportation? Then how is this regulated? My neighbor would then have a larger house than me. What happens when the babies grow old? Does he then move back into a smaller residence? etc.
This Venus project is heaven sent, being freed from the monetary system Human beings would simply be free to BE, (((gasp))) what a crime this concept is to society in this day, a human just BEING!
Probably people living that way would start to do crazy things, maybe create new ways to entertain themselfs or tecnologic toys that can be harmful somehow to society…
I just think even with this level of evolution in our planet would still need some spiritual thinking behind it, because when we have all this done our major goal should be the personal development, desenvolving by education, spiritual activits(meditation etc) and scientific technologic used in favor of our race, like genetics and other fields, creating a neo-human, or something like this.
@Noah
Noah, I don’t think you’re fully grasping the concept. To answer your questions:
1) People would stand out based on their talents and accomplishments. If you designed the best microchip, then your design would be used. since there’s no money involved, any product that would use said chip would use the best chip. Also, since you aren’t competing for money, you would most likely be working with all other microchip designers, much like open-source programs, etc. There wouldn’t need to be any restraints put on your chip because it would have no effect on the other designers’, except making older models obsolete, which then the group would more than likely continue to strive to improve upon the current ‘best’. Also, I feel that that issue is quite the opposite of ‘fairly dealt-with’ in our society today.
2) I don’t recall hearing that entertainment would be unnecessary in VP; and I don’t see why sports would be removed from society.
3) Population isn’t regulated in our economy now, that’s why there are single parents with multiple children they can’t support. I think that once money is taken out of the picture, then people would go to school more, like stated, and would maybe make smarter choices about having children. Also, it’s safe to assume that if your neighbor had 12 kids they would have a bigger house than you. But, if you reeealy wanted a bigger house, you could have one. It really wouldn’t be necessary, though, as in a monetary economy a ‘big house’ is seen as a status symbol, but in a resource based economy, it would just be seen as a big house. I think you should try to read more into the venus project and the zeitgeist movement, I think you’ll find that all of your concerns have been addressed. I have only begun to scratch the surface, and I have learned a lot about it.
Peace,
Allen
Hi, i m 30 old and coming from Austria. I had found yesterday the Venus Projekt on Youtoube. Since that i want to know more and more about that. I think thats really a good idear for the future, and the future starts now. The crisis is the time now to change.
When i think there is a way to see every day my childs grow up, i feel like heaven. I write thise Text here in my work. I m working as a Security at night to protect and control the headquater of one of the biggest Austrian Engery Concerns. Since i know about this project i m think: “What did i do? My I m siting here.”
I hope – NO I knew, we will reallize this dream to change the world in to a better one for all!
Greetings from Vienna/Austria/Europe
Jürgen
I would definitely be able to fill a lifetime with projects, art, inventions, and everything else that I’ve always wanted to do, but never could because most everything, costs money. I’ve been planning now, for several years, with my partner, to somehow obtain some cheap land, and then build our own self-sustainable house on that land, such as “earthship”, “cordwood”, “light concrete”, “bermed”, hybrid, etc…Both of us are outdoor types, and we have some experience helping out in building earth-bermed homes before…so we know we could survive and be quite happy in that style of living…only thing is, there is a minimum amount of money needed to even start up this type of project (i.e. solar/wind systems, plumbing, cistern systems, etc.)…and we’re dirt poor, I’m a sculptor and ceramics artist, but I’m also on social security disability for some of my illnesses…so as much as we really want to do this it’s incredibly hard with having such little income to begin with. We’d already assumed that we would go into this with several other people, but it’s rare to find someone in this society that would want to contribute monetarily to something like this…most of the people that I know who want to go “off grid” and live sustainably, are all people who have more or less rejected the system from the very beginning, and either quit their “real” jobs long ago, or otherwise don’t have much resources or savings…So I’m at a loss, does anyone else know how, a person like me, who wants to go off grid and live sustainably, could get started? Suggestions? (also for those who have never seen some examples, do a search on sustainable homes like “earthship”, “light concrete”, “cordwood”)
If animals were inherently greedy or any of these things how can they live in zoos or in aquariums just fine without resorting to fighting. Then just so you know Survival of the Fittest is a good term as long as you don’t mean by it that the animal most equiped to survive will live on it would be more like the animal most able to be able to be equiped to survive. An example would be the kings of old, they were most equiped to survive, but the common people overthrew them how can that be, that would mean it is the most group equipped to survive. Now I know you won’t agree with that, but that was my oppinion and if you have a problem tell me, because I realize this wasn’t a perfect explanation and I could bore you even longer. Happily, I won’t
I am pleased to see so many really enlightened comments. It tells me that there are already many people who can see the beauty in this vision for a whole new world. This is something I have felt on some level my whole life. Even when I was young and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, I knew that there was something really off about this world. After I grew up, I understood that it was the system that was flawed, not the world. I wish we could have it already. I would find a way to move, even if I had to sell most of what I own and hop on a greyhound bus. I have never found a way to make this current system work for me. It has just never fit. I looked out my window at a squirrel one day, and I said to myself….”Wow, nobody tells that squirrel that he has to pay anybody to live in that tree….and nobody tells that squirrel that he has to pay anyone for that nut he just ate.” Nobody tells that squirrel that he has to punch a time clock to earn money for a tree to live in, or nuts to eat.
I agree with Wade, among others. It is heaven sent. We are Human Beings, not Human Doings, and that is what we are meant to be. It is only this current, corrupt, and fundamentally flawed system that requires humans to slave for their survival. The universe does not require this at all.
@Almir
HAHA I was thinking the exact same thing mate. Oprah Winfrey. I don’t know why, but it makes sense. ‘The Secret’ bs was EVERYWHERE after she did a show on it.
Oh yeah and this is the type of thing that she goes for all the time as well. People working for the greater good etc.
I am interested to know how and where and under what government are you going to put this in action? What will the intrested national state whose soil you embark upon say to that? How are the legal aspects of this taken care of? What would/did these include? Do you even consider these questions to be relevant?
I’m sorry for asking so many questions and I hope someone patient and better informed will answer them. They loom pretty large to me. I dream of these kinds of communities since I was a child. Separation from the nightmare of all this waste of life is my most enduring day dream. I’ll never give up hope in the better place, since I’ve come to learn that people aren’t as half as bad as they could actually be in a world like ours, so I imagine them to be at least as half as better when the suffering’s lifted. But the whole world is the slave of comparably very few rich individuals. And now there can be no more lies: everything is plain for everyone to see. The force crushing our lives doesn’t feel the need even to hipocritically excuse its behavior. It disposes of our lives, in every possible sense of these words. Disposes with, also. We are disposable, like shoes or old news paper. This is a powerful enemy, it took down even mighty Eastern Empire of Communism. What makes anyone here believe that these people will allow these kinds of self-sustainable comm. to exist, in any size or form? I’m so crushed by the knowledge that they are very much feasible and implementable, they are often also very beautiful. But w/t a worldwide revolution precisely in oppinion, as well as in global economic environment, and with the nation-state system operative in every last inch of the world, these kinds of projects are vulnerable escape. Perhaps they let you be.
@Noah
Welcome Noah
Indeed Allen gave a very good explanation to all the questions you posted and I would not have agreed more.
If you want to clarify some things you should try Jacque Frescos’ book “Looking Forward” which is a very refreshing reading although it was written in late 60s. There you might find more answers to your questions and hopefully even more questions.

Don’t give all your power away to the “Status Quo”. Status Quo has changed by people’s movement before and it can and will change again. These ‘people’ you speak of that have a need for material items of status, are their behaviors somehow inherent and separate from their socioeconomic and cultural environments or are their behaviors an interdependent result of individual choice(free will) within their environment(collective will) ?
Also, with a “primitive mentality of centuries past and of the ignorant present” I to do not see any fundamental changes happening soon. Unless what ?
Unless we educate people from all levels of life to the accurate and complete history of our world, not just the conquerors versions. Unless we use new advances in understanding of human nature, our bodies, social interaction(sociometry, group dynamics, social networking,) to exponentially release the untapped potential we have as beings of this planet, as members of the great family of Humanity,

okay. the thing that is hardest for me to digest here is the lack of concern for what it would take to get to this point of perfection. this is crazy to think that people aren’t going to be asking questions like: “what about fancy purses/shoes/cars/jewelry/furniture/toys/bling/etc.???” those people that want and need to be better than everyone, those people that want and need wealth and inventory. those people today aren’t going to be willing to just give up that itch. no matter how positive and easy going this concept is. society has, in a way programmed itself to be eccentrically obsessed with possessions and vanity. how does that fit into this changed and improved way of life? i believe what you’re offering here is the closest thing i’ve ever come to when seeking the cure for our disease. however, i am very cynical because i am surrounded by these very people. people who are always there to maintain that primitive mentality of centuries past and of the ignorant present. i just don’t see this happening any time soon. this just isn’t pulling off a band-aid. this is pulling out circuitry. might as well start waiting for a meteor to come crashing down before you think you can put a dent in the status quo.
I fear the amount of people that would be happy in doing nothing. There IS (or seems to me) a large amount of people that want nothing more than to play video games. In our culture this is encouraged. Are we encourageing more or less? Have you read “Brave New World?” Does our current model not hold true to the “iceburg” theories?
I came to the conclusion a long time ago this type of society would never occur under the condition of society being free because most of society has been conditioned into slavery from childhood. People have been dumbed down through thought control, water, food, and air. These ideas are finally getting some light at the end of a free societies journey to a black hole that will suck them into a Brave New World. Hope not for such ideas. Educated a public that have ,conditioned to flashing bright colors and images on the television, an attention span of a child. Count yourself few that can understand jacque’s theory. Your are being watched so you might as well give 100% of your effort to the project. You face insane odds stacke against you. I personally have given up from years of draining struggles to get people to think. Automation is occuring making people useless, manless/mindless/obeying robotic armies are being built/ already built, the resources are controlled by bankers and their money manipulation, the media is sold out the them, the public school policies are geared toward people enslaving themselves and abstract idealogies, all information and enviroment is controlled so we can only expect people to react perfectly to the enviorment and information around them and go like cattle into slavery. It is checkmate and society has been outsmarted. Run away like jacque to the middle of the forest, but they will still hunt you down like foxes with robots when the time comes. Sell out and you might be able to breed into the blood line if you prove yourself through resource/money gaining. You know in your heart is checkmate, including you jacque fresco. You can lead a horse, pig, cow to water , but they decide to drink and think or lie in defeat. I know what they have chosen. The most simple path just a sheep with a shephard.
If this is depressing just remember that entropy will eventually kill all blood lines and psycho leaders.
I think what most people don’t realize, at least in my experience of discussing this topic, is that the modern hiearchichal social paradigm is only 8,000 years old, while human social structures have been around for at least a few hundred thousand years living in sustainable egalitarian societies. Furthermore, some ancient cultures (such as the Chavin in present day Peru) had fairly large city states in which a slavery system (whether through wages or physical force) was absent. This means that not only is an egalitarian way of life in our past, its also in our DNA, which to me counters the argument that the current system is a product of human nature instead of current human culture.
I believe this idea will work, as I have seen it work in my community with martial arts. The ones that were successful have usually been the not for profit organizations and clubs, while the ones requiring money either bankrupt the new clubs black belts opened or didn’t have enough students, because students couldn’t pay the monthly fees. The truth is, there are people willing to teach, and those willing to learn. If we base our society on compassion, and not on greed, I can imagine that this idea could work. =)
If people have no money then what will motivate them??
“People would have time for individual interests such as continuing their education. Education, if available to everyone without a price tag, could become a never-ending process. … Most people would attend schools and university classes or engage in other activities”
I’m seeing the words “People Would” alot; from this extract I’ve taken from the top of the page.
I think maybe you have forgotten about all the people who are quiet happy to sit on social-security and basically do nothing all day except consume. They would be getting a free ride in this new type of social structure.
Why would I want to donate my time and effort to build a new residential block if there are people using up resources without any contribution in return?? doesn’t seem fair to me regardless of abundance???
(lets face it, technology will not replace all human interaction, even the best SCADA systems today fail; to automate everything would be to create AI and perhaps a whole new set of concerns)
I do hope that my scepticism is an over-site of something already explained, since I really like the ideas presented here.
Actually, I am really interested in TVP. I like the direction it is going but I’m sure that there are going to be alot of obstacles to attain this kind of future for our next generation. There are many questions, concern, and scenarios one could think up that would happen during the transition period.
Do we have a section in this blog where people could look into the Venus Project in-depth with scrutiny and think of ways to make the transition as smooth as possible? I would like to join that group and continually discuss ideas and research facts to find ways to reach TVP ideologies. Thank you.
I am impressed by the Venus Project and especially the concept of a resources based economy. It gives a totally new and optimistic prospect for the whole humanity. It is like a heaven on Earth!!
Jacque Fresco thank you for opening our eyes and sharing with us your life’s work which will transform our world to a better place to live in.
I have seen from previous posts that people have doubts and ask too many questions regarding the Venus Project. This is natural when someone comes across a new way of thinking. I am pretty sure that there can be a million, event infinite, questions to ask but the best thing is to try out the ideas in the real world. First in a small scale, like the Venus Project, and successively growing in scale and finally encompassing the whole world. It will be a continuous and trial-and-error process until we make it work perfect for all humankind.
it is sad that we are going to see so much suffering before something like the venus project is realised. Unfortunately the pace at which humanity is chaning does not match the pace at which the world is changing and therefore something like the venus project will be birthed out of necessity rather than choice, people will have no choice to band together and those that oppose this reality will no longer have to power to suppress it. It will although happen within our lifetimes. The change has already begun.
Something I have noticed about the lack of vision with the “incentive” problem that most people seem to believe we will not have in this society (referring to skeptics). I don’t see how people believe we will have no incentive if we were in the society Mr. Fresco advocates. One of the main reasons I believe that you will have plenty of incentives came to me when my father retired from his job. He had the freedom to just sit around, do nothing and “lay in the sun all day” as it was put in the Zeitgeist Addendum movie. BUT HE COULDN’T AND DIDN’T!!! He chose to pursue many of his hobbies and interests that included but not limited to: learning web design, working on music, art in the form of beautiful sketches that he GAVE AWAY!!!, enjoying time with his family, researching things that interested him like learning about physics and aerospace technology, making models, and many many other things not mentioned. He used to be an aircraft maintenance technician.
He loved airplanes and to fly but was still happy to finally be finished working like he did his whole life, and yet his incentive to be a productive human being compelled him to be more and to learn more than ever! AND GUESS WHAT, HE DID and IS. Because he is somewhat more free than he has ever been to do so.
He still has to make time for the normal things that this society has forced him to continue doing, but he is still more free than ever and his incentive did not leave him, THEY ONLY CHANGED!
That’s my story on that, and it is not mere speculations, it is fact in the life of my father and I’m sure many other people who have seen this happen to a retiree as well!
Hi everyone, im Sergio from argentina, i saw the first movie last year and in that moment thought… well… this is not new to me, conspiracy, monetary interests etc.. a few month ago i saw the second movie and that was a real smash in my head… for a long time i was talking about a society wiyhout money, production, education, research, everithing with no cost at all… learning about the venus project gives me hope that this can be possible!
BUT… i start thinking… how much time we can spent whaiting to this come true at full scale?? it could be decades… maybie centuries??? theres must be a solution to this, the system wont allow it, at leat not at a fast pace…
it could be violent if we think it… averi change in this planet was made in confrontation of another force that doesnt like that change AT ALL!
this could happen… or not… i can tell the future, but i can tell u this… in my countruy, it wont be possible since the lack of resources of the people to implement this changes, i cant even think about a politician makin it happen!! not here, not now… so i thought, what if WE do it?? first i though what if I do it? how can i start?? can i do my self independent of this system?? whow can i do it using the resources at hand??? how can i unplugg myself from the corps providing me energy, or whater, or natural gas… i know that theres some thechs i can use, but how i can implement it by myself when the prices for adquire it them its too expensive (im still inside a monetary cage), and i start think about… you are the minds behind this project… you have a lot of info about HOW we can do it, and if you dont have it, maybie you can provide a “how to start…” manual? guiding us with technicals recomendations about how we can unplugg us without failing in the proccess… i think this is important, this can not only give us autonomy, it can cut the feed chain to this corporations, if 1 can do it, 2 can… , and 4 can…, and it could spread really fast!! only then we could be available to use BETTER thechs, improve them, and stop worring about this issues… it ould help us all A LOT!!
If im going to clean all up… i better star with my own house dont u think?
Thanks for your time
@Saito
I think one of the most important ideas that you are not fully considering is our use of technology in a practical society. Computers would be very effecient at all monitering and management process as they are far more reliable by nature. If you used science as proposed then everything would be design to last long and be effecient. We would never need to clean up our waste because the system would be designed to take care of everything. Farm work would not be tough, hard work because we could design it to be much simpler and of greater quality. This whole movement is very enlightening and genuinely good. Everything it stands for is morally sound. I wish we lived in a society where everyone could share this univerasal understanding.
Here is an interesting thought. Could we one day design ourselves to be somehow connected to a network of information like a computer that would be a central database as described in the zeitgeist movement movie. Our brains could access this database like a computer accesses the internet. Imagine the possiblities.
I love this. Ive been trying to teach this way of life for the last year or so since my first visit to the burn. This is the way we need to live our life. What will it take for this change to take place?
A new city founded by scientist and ppl who, working together, can develop a new way of living. I would give this all up to be a part of it.
there will, at least at first many task that ppl will not want to do, like cleaning to environment. A f.a.q is what would motivate ppl to do these task if they are not being compensated and some one even mentioned that we are naturally selfish, i don’t believe this to be true. As a kid our parents make us do many shores to sustain our home and (at least in my case) was hardly ever compensated. If we were to live in a society were everyone contributed in sustaining the functionality of the environment these task would then be divided evenly with in the public. There will still be work involved but not as much. Many jobs are being replaced by robots as we speak but there has been an increase in the service industries to make up for the lost jobs. If we were to stop being such big consumers then the service industry would collapse there for the monetary system will collapse eventually. The refining of the cities will take work but i dont believe it would take as much as 40 hours week for each individual of society do. I believe the number would be much, much less and that number will only decline as technology advances, giving us more time with the incentive of self fulfillment and of course LIFE. Society today i believe is a cancer and i believe that with a society that the Venus Project presents will be more interested in how we can survive as human-beings. If we aren’t able to prevent our own extinction that would prove we weren’t very smart much less if we cause our own extinction
@Erick
i don’t believe that ppl in a society like the one the venus project presents ppl will even care about styles in cloth. If you have to express a style with image or materialism than you just don’t have much style. Style is best expressed through art and talent, you know, what makes you you. not through anything materialistic. The only thing that would matter when it came to cloths will be comfort-ability and durability and style. YOu may want to ware a neck-less a friend gave you and you may want to make something and enjoy giving it away. You may even want to make your own cloths if you feel there’s an art in it.
pupil thoughts we like to share…
1. We are slaves to Webster and the definitions in the Dictionary.
2. Breaking the codes: Genesis (Real meaning Genes of Us)
3. GOD (Real meaning Government of Devils – also Demons)
4. Civilized (Real meaning Civil Lies)
5. History (Real meaning His Story)
6. Mystery (Real meaning My Story: Yet to be told)
Get my drift? there are so many coded (loaded) meanings in the inner Sanctums
One of the most coded and loaded words is information:
In formation; in the military you have to stay in-formation…to keep every in cadence, everyone going in the same direction
Trying to define the TRUTH…
Simply put, Where the Lie Is Not
Democracy…Demon-ocracy
Capitalism…Capture, Capitalize, hence Capitalism to Decapitate
@Christian Jackson
Excellent round up
The Venus Project IS what earth may become in a few hundred years, but I highly doubt we will be able to make the transition in the near future. The thing is, once a child is born, that child needs to be raised in an environmnet with people that don’t have the mentality of greed and selfishness. And in order to do that (make the transition to something like the VP), we are still going to have to use the monetary system, but not manipulated by the elite. We have to make people aware that it’s US, the PEOPLE, that should make decisions, and not be afraid of the government or corporations our entire lives. I believe that THAT should be our highest priority. As described in Zeitgeist Addendum, the elite are causing all the world’s problems. But if we work hard to expose all this fraud that people have been living with their entire lives, then we can remove the elite from power, and establish a REAL global democracy in which the people make decisions and have power, not selfish corrupt polititians/institutions. The whole problem as of now is that either people aren’t aware of anything, or people simply don’t care, which would be very sad. I believe that if we can make people aware and care, then we can accomplish ANYTHING.
Another thing is that people get worried about their jobs because if they become unemployed then they wouldn’t be able to pay for food and water. BUT, if we rethink the way we design houses and apartment buildings, arquitects could start incorporating areas for growing vegetables and space for fruit trees on houses and buildings. As well as solar panels and wind turbines which require almost zero maintenance could become almost free for people if they are built in local communities. Then people wouldn’t have to worry about feeding their families because they can produce food right where they live. And transportation could eventually cost almost nothing if people would be able to choose to have fully electric cars which would be recharged in their homes with the solar panels or whatever, again at almost NO COST. That would greatly reduce the need to have a undesirable job because of the need for money to pay for food and water. It’s all a matter of THINKING, and trial and error.
Just a question tat has been bugging me: in a resource based economy you’ve done away with the money, and I think we can all see the advantages there. But it in’t clear howresources are allocated. Abolishing money also abolishes a medium of exchange and with it a method, however injust and inefficient of, allocating/distributing resources. So, to take one posters example how would one get hold of the material needed to make our new designer clothes? Simply basing an economy on resources rather than money (laudable, of course, as this tkaes out a whole swathe of ‘vampires’ such as advertisers, bankers, etc, making things less costly and more valueable in themselves and reducing to a limited extent the level of scaricty) doesn’t resolve the fundamnetal problem of scarcity. Some people will have more cotton or wool or nylon or whatever than others. HOw would scarce rsources NOT lead to one form or other of commercialism and with that, war, social exclusion, envy, etc.
of course that would be a great way of living and it’s the perfect solution for everything i think BUT those people outside they are not into sitting around reading books doing something creative or studying and they never have done it in their entire lifes! I think this project has to get more detailed becouse everything I read about it is the same in one way it’s all about design design design no war no war no war studying universitys no money no work to those people out there this just sounds like a lazy-hippy-asotial-student-stoner-club. Please correct me if I am wrong becouse I am totaly new in here, first totaly fascinated by the idea then a bit disapointed becouse i havent found anything but DESIGNS DESIGNS flyers and movies and than i find out that it all started somewere between the 60s and the 70s?? WE NEED MORE A LOT MORE!!!! with designs we are going to impress them first and then they will get ony talking and nearly no proof?? they will get bored give you a lough call you a hippy and leave the show! WE NEED THEM ALL TO CONVINCE THE WORLD!
as i said still pretty uninformed becouse i can’t find anything more on the net!

I hate to be skeptical and personally I’m absolutely convinced I could live in a resourced based society as described here but I can’t help but wondering if this would work for everyone mostly because of what I see in my very close environment.
My dad is a personal investor and doesn’t have a ‘real’ job and lots of free time and money to do whatever he would like to do.
I think most of you here, like me, could think of hundreds of different ways to spend our time that is why I found it very hard to understand that my dad was very close to a depression because he didn’t know how to spend his time.
He loves reading books and listening to music but not the whole day. He doesn’t really enjoy travelling, for sure not outside western/northern Europe, he just loves skiing trips so that’s what he does about 4 times every winter but then, skiing is not a very environmental friendly hobby. I’m from Holland and almost everyone there who has some money loves to go skiing and if you’d asked what they would love to do most if they wouldn’t need money to do it, a lot of people would answer they would go skiing more often but we couldn’t all go skiing all winter, could we? Imagine the burden on the environment.
He and his friends all have good jobs and don’t have to worry about any bills or debts and my dad was telling me the other day how some of his friends dislike vacations because they don’t know how to spend them, what to do. Most of their free time they spend together drinking beer, after skiing their favorite way to pass time but not a very constructive hobby either I guess..
Does anybody have a explanation for that behavior? And how could/would this be different in a resource based society?
How to deal with things like alcoholism? People drink for lots of different reasons, often to forget about their problems but not always. Sometimes people just feel more self confident and don’t even notice how their behavior becomes very disturbing. How would we deal with that?
Would alcohol be freely available anyways?
Looking forward to reading your thoughts on these matters.
With the focus on education, technology, and a resource based economy we as the human race will flourish. With the lack of a monetary system to hold back the progress of technology and new far more effective sources of energy (solar energy, tidal energy, wave energy, wind energy, most important geothermal energy) human life will make a drastic well deserved and a long overdue evolution. With the lack of currency on the plant earth, breaking these chains of debt freeing ourselves to expand our minds and our greatest potentials. I see only a greater incentive for human beings to progress at an accelerated pace creating a new era in every aspect of technology’s and science witch in turn will change life on earth for the greater good.
@iv
What do you think would happen in a world where “The 7 Tenets” were implemented? 1.) The abolition of the spoken and written word. 2.) The new emergence of language; Telepathy and Empathy<——–(empathy being a pre-requisite in order to experience telepathy). 3.) There is no personal property except your body and what is on your body. 4.) There is no such thing as a border except for #3 above. 5.) Attuning with the ‘larger context’ is practiced daily (ie, meditation,prayer, or other) 6.) To find your purpose is the highest form of good. 7.) Create
Through telepathy symbiotic energies will always naturally come together so that technological advancements will still procure as well as basic human needs. We must trust that we do not need the spoken word in order to accomplish things. The spoken word mainly serves as an instrument of power and persuasion through separate identity creation. It is not necessary I believe, though my knowledge is limited. The consequence of “The 7 Tenets” is non-dualism. Non-dualism may create a new set of problems that I would really like to explore with you. If you would like to explore the implications of non-dualism, both it’s positive and negative impacts, I would love to hear some replies. Thanks.
This mean we are building a new world/society/nation/civilization. This Idea is very nice perhaps it is the ideal Eden on earth. But is it really practical? resources are scared there is billions of human on earth. let pretend we have enough resourses where wuold this society/nation wuold locate. U.S.A can’t bring herself transform into a new world just like that nor any of other countries around the globe. we need new land to make a fresh start and uninterfering from others nations such invasions and plundering.Mans are greeds and selfish. To bring the idea into practice we need to come together those people that are really interested and build a new society/nation. Well it just a thought. don’t know if it really helps much..you all have a great day
I am a 50 year old Canadian who has volunteered in my community coaching hockey, baseball and soccer, as well as administrating a winter sports club. I’ve given of myself and have dedicated 30+ years of my furtile life contributing to this society we call civilized. Well it has been more like a prison term that has included 25 years employed as a millhand that has been responsible (or lack of it)ruptured three discs in my lower back, nearly amputated my left forearm leaving me with a six inch plate and six screws for life in the radius bone, and also reduced my hearing by 30%. Thank God I was smart enough to contribute to a pension plan for 27 years, which the financial system’s manipulated ploy of 2009 has resulted in losses amounting to 30%+. In retrospect what seems to have been a comfortable rut, was indeed a term of slavery followed by current unemployment much like a prison term. The monetary system does not provide for the debt that it leaves us in when our employer closes its’ doors. Debt that was based on your income. It’s just another trapdoor in this hellhole. I am tired, tattered and torn, left feeling now not so furtile. I want to get off this ride, I want off this hamster wheel.
I am now honestly and openly willing to take the value of my pension plan and sign it over to the Venus Project in exchange for living in such a humaine community where I could maintain the civil properties doing such tasks as cutting grass, tending to gardens and generally living out the remainder of my life in peace, without stress and slavery.
And in the end would much more prefer having a Viking funeral rather than a money grab funeral.
I believe that the Venus Project’s vision will indeed occur, but it will happen only when the life of the current system has dried up like a prune.
It is however our responsibility now to begin developing and communicating this message of humanity unselfishly to the entire world so that when the prune meets its destiny, our system will be in motion and mankind will see it as the logical method that has survived.
I get up in the morning,first think I do! take my guitar and play music from bach,dowland,carcassi,capsberger,tarrega,villa lobos,play improvisations,compose music,play jazzimprovisation,go to a friend,make a
a blues session,I love this kind of live and fresco`s ideas reaching above the goal of freedom,nothing goes above a creative live as artists are doing,ore people challanging their personalities with sports,sciences,teachers,socialworkers,(social work shouldnt replaced with machines).I am concerned about warlords there wonna take our pease away, than would be others people and my creative live be over,because those people very destuctive.I like frescos idea to turn religions into philosophie,wapons of massdistraction into wapons they produces food,housing,free adjucation,using renewable energie,no nuklear plants ore waste !traveling thru space and time?It would satisfy every creature on earth.I like to love living in a free spirited world with all there colors and beautiful people and creatures there inhabiting it with love,peace and happiness.
@Eva
Your father and friends have financial(responsebilities to your neighbor who has needs,lives in great scarcitie) resources,and they could help fighting against homelesness,ask your dead to bay houses where people can sleep,live,have a familie,to have anove food,pay for scools so they can be aducated in sience ore arts.Ore help to finance titalwaveprojects,windmillenergie,solartechnologie,clean water projekts ,free energie projects,ore there are people in your neighborhood cant pay the dendist bill,I had to pay for a rootcanal $ 1500,- and it was for me a 2 month labor to pay this bill,you could helped me straight out of this situation,there are a lot poor people along in the rich western countries,encourage your father to help them.Ore help people fighting for their human rights in courts ,help them to pay there expensive attorney fees (many people be innocent and charched with crimes even there did not committet and have to serve a prison sentence,because they couldn`t afford a attorney to fight for there rights).Ore right now people tortured in konzentation camps in north korea ,born babys be kicked to death from KZ kamp supervisors.But around your neighborhood is some body in need,some people are happy if you invite them for a meal in a restaurant.And alcohol like other drugs,use it if you have fun along with other people,if the fun stops,stop the consum of drug,just consume drugs responsible,and be not dangerous for the puplic (dont drink and drive,you can kill a hol family in a fan,car,truck)Its sad,I saw many people killed in occidents,when I was a interstate trucker for covinent transportation,the memories are horrible.
Your father needs a task,perhaps need to get an adjucation in social work,in the arts,learn to play a musicinstrument,go back to university,its never to late working out subjektiv talents,help other people,rather to trink the frustration of boredness away with alkohol.Alkohol should be fun under friends,but not a burdon.@Eva
