What a kick, skimming through all this book, titles and authors. I noticed Twain and Wells, two of the few authors I have read.
My reading has comprised completely different books, but a lot, and I have had a hunch for another approach than today’s.
But the non-scientific books I have read, and my non-scientific brain, had no chance to envision a sustainable alternative,that somehow really worked. But then I found Jacque’s work, and I just say: Go! GO!
What an amazing list of books! Thank you so much for putting all these great recommendations together! I just ordered The Best That Money Can’t Buy from your site and will definitely be adding many of these to my library in time.
If anyone is interested, I will be starting a book discussion thread on thezeitgeistmovement.com forum to discuss some of these books in an organized manner. Every month will focus on one book. More info later… check the forum to stay caught up.
@Josh Berger
Thanks for your support Josh – You should receive it soon
@Jeremy
Good idea Jeremy, thanks for that input. The more people you can refer to this list, the better. Keep us posted.
And what about Marx’s Das Kapital?
I think it is quite reasonable to be included in this list.
Any movie recommendations? (beside Future by design and Zeitgeist).
Thanks
Great list, will surely start reading!
I only mis the books ‘No Logo’ and ‘the shock doctrine’ by Naomi Klein in this list. They are a must read!
have a nice life
s
For movies, I would say The Corporation, Monsanto and IOUSA are good… It’s more information!
I suggest adding “The Kingdom Of God Is Within” by Leo Tolstoy to your list. It is an amazing foundational book written over a hundred years ago and was an inspiration to the young lawyer, Mahatma Ghandi.
I admire Ur ambition & ideas, especially about eliminating money but I’ve been warning ppl for 30 years about Babylon falling, it’s hopeless. If I had the $$$ I’d buy a place to escape to a sustainable community and stock up on corn, soybeans, vitamin C and salt. Things can not go on as they are!
I have a small farm in Puerto Rico, and would love to have people of like mind build sustainable housing here….of course we still do live in commerce, but I find living in nature as I do, frees up Who I really Am…to that extent possible! I need less, want less stuff…and get totally freaked out by grocery stores, and when I have to go into mainstream. Anyone has any ideas, would love to explore.
And does anyone know what’s going on with the Venus P; there have been few postings from FJ lately – and the research center is up for sale! Peace and hugs…
This list is filled with valuable knowledge that affects us all. I also would recommend “Blackwater – The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army” by Jeremy Scahill. For all you parents of children under 5 years of age, I must suggest the “Your Baby Can Read” program. The more educated our children are, the better the world will be. I cannot stress how utterly imperative it is that you start your infant or toddler on this immediately. The results are undeniable and the approach is scientific.
I do what I can to support the Zeitgeist Movement.
you guys whould try “Conversations with God” too, by Neale Donalsh Walsch. Som many philosophies in parallel with the Venus project and zeitgeist.
I agree about the “Kingdom of God, it definetely belongs here, what about something from Eckhart Tolle?
“War is a Racket” by Smedley Butler
Jacque, you are hope in this terribly sad world. I will save this booklist for sure. Just received your package, very pleased with it.
I’ll add some more, mainly docu’s, to Ekaterina’s list:
- The Fog of War
- Why We Fight
- The Matrix (the first one) (view it as an allegory for our own western reality)
- Surplus: Terrorized Into Being Consumers
- Sicko (other Moore docu’s aren’t too bad either)
- The Weather Underground
- Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
- Outfoxed
- Taxi to the Dark Side
- An Unreasonable Man
- Money As Debt (can view on You Tube)
- The Money Masters (can view on You Tube)
- King Corn
Their levels of “absolute importance or relevance” may vary, but I think they’re all worth a watch, as well, given their entertainment value.
There are probably many more good ones out there, some which have slipped my mind, if you take the time to look and cross-reference.
Indeed a great list of books which I’m looking forward to Reading. I’d like to suggest a few books that explore social capital and the effect of capitalism. The first, slowly becoming a classic, is called ‘Bowling Alone’ by Robert Putnam…in it he explores the breakdown of modern society and highlights how and why social capital is important for society. The other book, very well referenced with lots of accessible statistics, is ‘The High Price of Materialism’ by Tim Kasser, which explores the detrimental affect our present capitalist value system is having on individuals.
So, I have a question… is it a requirement to not be “religious” or to not believe in God in order to be a part of this project? Would you be ridiculed or not accepted? I firmly believe in the projects intentions and would love to join but I want to be able to have my religious freedom to worship. Does this make me ignorant?
@Fakir
Hi Bob, If you have seen those movies, why do you need to see more? Surely you’ll understand the concept by now, and be able to write your own scripts. It’s a very simple principle. Simple to understand, and simple to enact. All we need to do is ask the people of the planet to simply change their minds, collectively, and put their faith in a system that I judge, cannot fail if people can only put their faith in it, and believe, like they never believed before, that the future for us, the most advanced species in the known universe, is golden. We just have to ‘make it so’ Love to all, Peacemaker.
Sorry about that Fakir, and apologies to you… Bob. The message remains the same… and why wouldn’t it? It’s potentially perfect. Jump in and be an activist, spread the word, Change the future for your children… and theirs… and theirs… Love to all, Peacemaker xx
looking thru the reading list, i wonder if only white people write books. Is the Venus Project going to be another European cultural venture?
My book, “The Apothecary’s Song,” is coming out in a few weeks, and I would love for it to be added to this list! The story follows a typical American couple as they close their ears to the lullabies the sirens (stressful jobs, bills, TV, and daily chores) sing and wake up from slumber. After struggling against the fear they feel when they look around and understand the familiar structures upon which they’ve come to depend are crumbling, they step into a new, incandescent experience of life based on active, transformative love, spirituality, and modern tribalism (resource-based economy, in the terms of The Venus Project).
Following the story, there’s a glossary of healing herbs and self-sufficiency/sustainability tips.
This story is intended to be thought-provoking entertainment that’s appealing not only to those who are already awake, but also to those who haven’t yet thought about some of the pressing current issues demanding revolution and new creation. Please spread the word to your friends and family who might not be awake to the issues for which you’re advocating!
Thank you for your support!

(The Apothecary’s Song: An Ode to 2012 in F Sharp’s website will be up soon- in the meantime, please join the “Apothecary’s Song” facebook group. Book release date: February 25. Available on amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com and elsewhere!)
I am so grateful for this list of materials to read and learn about and also for all of your hard work, Roxanne and Jacque. The Venus Project and The Zeitgeist Movement are giving me and so many others great hope for the future. A future that we are all helping to achieve one day.
I have made a reading/discussion group on http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/ to discuss these books. I have added them all to the group listing to help get more people aware of them. I am not profitting off of this list, I am simply wanting to spread this movement to as many people as possible. I think that educating people is probably the best step right now in order to get people aware of both Zeitgeist and the Venus Project.
The discussion group is located at: http://community.indigo.ca/posts/The-Zeitgeist-Movement-The-Venus-Project-Recommended-Reading/group-2189/current.html
If anyone else here has a profile on http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/ please let me know.
Thank you kindly,
Antonio Siracusa.

Hi Marlene,
I was actually thinking about make a ecological farm in South America.
I have some friends who are interesting with this project.
But for the moment we don t have money to buy a farm.
I was thinking to use ecological energy and develop tourism with respect of the nature.
I am very sorry about my english. I am french but I am bilingual spanish.
hope to hear you soon
Do you have Venus project virtual game same as other popular game like FArmville. With this game we will be able to simulate what will be life in a resourced based economy, we will see the modern design of cities and communities. You can show in this game what is Venus project all about, enlightening us in the process.
@Robert Bonomo
Great idea… I think Eckhart is brilliant…
@neil
Neil,
I have The SIMS 3 and have created a resource based economy in the game by using various hacks, cheats and game modifications. It is pretty close to what a Venus Project game would be like!
@neil
The SIMS 3 you can use cheats and mods and you can have sort of a Venus Project type game.
